Can Gucci belts be shortened?
I offer a belt shortening service and I've done a range of different belts including Gucci and belts from the high street. The length will be removed from the buckle end in most cases. The price will vary slightly as buckles can be attached in different ways which can vary the amount of work needed.

Measurements First
But unlike a pair of pants, you shouldn't buy the width that corresponds to the wearer's waist measurement. Be sure to buy a belt size that is at least two inches greater. For instance, if you typically wear size 32 pants, you should purchase a size 34 belt.
A lifting belt's tightness may vary slightly by exercise, however, in general, you should have about a finger width of room between the belt and your torso so it's tight enough where you feel it around your waist, but are still able to breathe comfortably.
I am always asked about sizing for Gucci belts, it's a very personal thing but I personally always size up (I am a size UK 6-8) and it's better to have one too big and add extra holes in my opinion. Typically, the belt strap should end between your first and second belt loop. If you have enough extra material to loop it through the second belt loop, it's too long. If your belt doesn't extend through the first belt loop, it's too short.
But as a general rule of thumb, in MOST cases the belt will need to be 3" to 6" greater than your pants waist size, depending on whether you plan to wear a holster, what kind of holster, and the size of the holster.

Do thicker belts make you look thinner?
Simple Guidelines for your body type:

Should I size down in Gucci?
Gucci recommend you size down when getting Gucci leather shoes. With my leather Gucci Jordaans, I did go down half a size and it was the way to go. What is this? With the Jordaan Canvas, I'm a size 5 which is a 38 Italian and UK 5 and so I bought a size EU 37.5 which is a UK 4.5.

Although you can use scissors, that may not be an ideal tool. But a rotary cutter with a sharp blade can be a good tool for cutting leather strips and belts. Cutting leather belts can be achieved without damaging the leather.
For instance, you could get shoulder adjustments, shorten the sleeves, or taper the waist. A leather tailor will try to work within your specifications to change your leather jacket so that you feel comfortable with it. If you're on a budget, ask the tailor for an estimated cost of the alterations.
While you can definitely use scissors to cut leather, it's not ideal. On thin leather you might not get a nice straight cut because you cut line can move a little every time you move the scissors to take another snip. On thick leather, you might not be able to cut it at all.
Take it to your local cobbler to get a hole made properly. Dress belts should only have a short tail end. You just want a few inches of leather to the left of the buckle when it's fastened, long enough to tuck through the first belt loop or the loop on the belt itself if it has one.
How do you cut a notch in a belt?
Find a nail of a similar size to the existing holes. Place the nail over where you want the new hole to be and hammer it through the leather. For neatness, try to do this in as few hits as possible. If the leather is thick, use the point of a knife to make an indentation and work the nail into it.
